French Immersion Program

Students in Grade 3 in the French Immersion Program whose boards have selected Option A or Option B (see below), will complete the language component in English.

With the release of The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1–8: Mathematics (2020), there is one curriculum for both French- and English-language schools. For this reason, the mathematics questions on the French- and the English-language assessments are now the same.

The French-English and English-French Glossaries assist French Immersion students completing the mathematics components of the primary- and junior-division assessments. In the French-English and English-French glossaries, students can find many common mathematics terms used in French and English in Grade 3 or Grade 6 according to the mathematics curriculum. During the mathematics component of the assessment, students can access the glossaries on the assessment platform and they can also use hard copies of the glossaries, which can be printed in regular- or large-print from the EQAO website.

Grade 3 French Immersion

Each school board will determine which option students in Grade 3 French Immersion classes will follow for the assessment:

Option A: Students complete all components in English.

Option B: Students complete the reading and writing components in English and the mathematics component in French.

Option C: Students complete the mathematics component in French. These students do not complete the reading and writing components and will receive results only for mathematics.

Accessing the Sample Test on the E-Assessment Platform

Grade 3 French Immersion students who access the sample test through the e-assessment platform will be presented with questions in French or English, based on the option selected by the board. However, the platform itself, including the tool exploration, tool bar and help pages will be in English. For information on changing the language of the e-assessment platform from English to French, please contact info@eqao.com.

Accessing the Sample Test on the EQAO Website

There are two options for Grade 3 students to access the sample test on the EQAO website:

  1. Access the Sample Test in English on the EQAO website to access the assessment questions and platform in English for the language and mathematics components (in Option A) or the language component (in Option B).
  2. Access the Sample Test in French on website OQRE to access the assessment questions and platform in French for the mathematics component (for Option B and Option C).

Note: If Grade 3 students are accessing the sample test on the French website, both the questions and the tools will be in French. In order to access the questions in French and the platform and tools in English, you must have the students access the sample test through the e-assessment platform.

Accessing the Mathematics Component of the Operational Assessment on the E-assessment Platform

For Grade 3 French Immersion students, the questions in the operational assessment will be automatically provided to students in English or French, based on the option selected by the board. If a board selects Option B or Option C, the mathematics questions will be in French.

NOTE
Regardless of the option selected by the board for Grade 3 French Immersion students, the platform will remain in English. The student questionnaire will be provided to all French Immersion students in English. If a teacher determines that the student platform, including the tool exploration, tool bar and help pages should be in French, please contact info@eqao.com.

Grade 6 French Immersion

Students in Grade 6 French Immersion programs will complete the mathematics and language components of the Assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics, Junior Division in English.
